At royal family farming we talk a lot about utilizing natural systems and supporting your local farmer. We practice this as best we can but there are times when the two are mutually exclusive

Many of our family have been Washington natives for generations, but Uncle Calvin’s family have literally planted seeds in Arizona since 1974. My father, Jerry, is one of seven children and his eldest brother Calvin has blessed us with not only the gift of visits to warm sunshine during our frigid Washington winters but also delicious fresh pecans.

Calvin practiced law for many years in the Phoenix area but longing for his rural upbringing led him to purchase a mondest pecan farm in 2003 in Bowie, Arizona. We have enjoyed seeing their family work their way to success and create an entrepreneurial legacy.
Over time and along with my cousins, uncle Calvin has expanded their pecan farm to include more acreage and they are now successfully farming pistachios as well. Now with more than 800 acres of pecan and pistachio trees, my cousin Jared has stepped into the role as General Manager, and we have been happy to see how the farm continues to flourish.
Most pecans thrive in hot humid conditions and require long seasons for growth. For this variety of nut that can’t be achieved in our home state of Washington so every fall we look forward to our Uncle Calvin’s pecan harvest when we are able to eat freshly harvested and hulled pecans!
