10 Family Fall Activities You Can Still Do!

10 Family Fall Activities You Can Still Do!

Here we are, mid October, and fall is slipping away from us! Autumn is extremely busy for us farmers, a lot of harvesting and prepping for winter is in the works.
In order to keep our priorities centered on our families, we really have to buckle down and designate time for one another. We thought we’d share some of our favorite fall activities and some that are new to us this year in hopes it will help you find some fun during this busy season with the people you love most. If you try any out, we’d love to hear about it!
  1. Visit the Pumpkin Patch–we love the chance people get to interact with farming during the fall. We have some nieces and nephews here in Royal that have done that hard work to grow a pumpkin patch and it's so fun to support them!
  2. Make a Pumpkin treat–Some of our favorite pumpkin dessert recipes linked here, here and here!
  3. Fall Colors Scavenger Hunt–such a simple way to appreciate the small things. If you collect your leaves, look at these adorable hedgehogs you can make with your littles!
  4. Apple Picking-Fall wouldn’t be fall without picking buckets of apples on a crisp fall day! If you want to go the extra mile, we love to do an apple twisting contest! Let us know on our insta @royalfamilyfarming if you'd like to see our tricks for splitting an apple!
  5. Do a Halloween Craft–we are pretty busy this time of year so the simpler the craft the better. We love that paper chains are making a comeback! Look at this cute chunky one here
  6. A Friendly Football Scrimmage–non-negotiable fall activity for the Allred family!
  7. Family Cider Day!--a long standing tradition in our home that we love to do with our extended family! Cider can some in smaller batches, but we love doing a big haul with all of our family. Video about it here
  8. Local sporting events–we have a big football following in Royal and we love making it out for a couple games every year. Recently we went to our nieces soccer game and there was a competition for the kids at half time, so fun to support our local teams!
  9. Jumping in a leaf pile–underrated way to keep the kids entertained in our opinion–and you get a tidy lawn out of it as well. Win, win!
  10. Carving pumpkins–recently we have tried this method and it’s so much easier to get out all those slimy guts and seeds. Friendly reminder to repurpose those seeds for next year and try your hand at growing your own pumpkins. For our local friends, we’ve got some awesome vermicompost to enrich your soil, you can order it for pick up today!

We would love to hear about your own family traditions in the comments below! If you want to learn more about us, we are active on Instagram, Youtube and TikTok!
